It seems to me that we as a society do not put enough into being proactive against crime.
I understand it costs approx $65,000.00 a year to incarcerate someone. Why don't we spend more on community activity centers so we give the kids something to do other than becoming gang members and doing all kinds of criminal activity and then we spend the $65K to keep him / her away from society.
Why don't we spend the $65K say times 10 in the community and maybe we don't have to spend it later in the jails.
It seems to me we have lots of money to punish simple crimes and prosecutions but no money in prevention of crime. The current way of dealing with these type of crimes just doesn't seem to be working. Maybe its time for a change.
